We all know that points make you rank up. But if you want to get more combat effectiveness in exchange for a slower rank-up, you could go to a sort of 'market' area in-game, where you could buy upgrades and new guns with points.
Some things that you might see in the market:
-Shotgun (high power, low range. Cost: MED)
-Flamer (fires in a cone. Cost: MED)
-Sniper rifle (High accuracy, low ammo. Maybe a zoom function? Cost: MED to HIGH)
-Different ammo for pipebombs (flare, smoke, flare, flashbang, etc... Cost: LOW to HIGH)
-Railgun (Low accuracy, high damage, fires through obstacles. Great with xray. Cost: HIGH)
-Revolver (Sucks, but never runs out of ammo. Cost: LOW)
-Cloaking device (Makes you invisible until you get hit. then it stops working. Cost: HIGH)
-Markerlight ('tags' an enemy. deals no damage, but reveals the enemy's position. Cost: MED)
-Homing ammo (shots home in on the other shots' locations. This is great if you've been conserving ammo and only hitting your opponent, but if you've been spraying ammo over an entire area, your rockets are going to have some weird flight paths. Cost: HIGH)
